PureGluc: Membrane-based downstream separation and purification of glucose-rich stream obtained from tertiary cellulose
As demand for bio-based raw materials soars, Recell is leading the charge with its cutting-edge technology to recover tertiary cellulose from waste streams and convert it into high-quality glucose. This third-generation glucose can replace fossil-based raw materials in the production of chemicals like acetic acid and bioplastics. What makes Recell’s process unique? It uses residual waste, avoiding competition with food sources and reducing the CO2 footprint.
The PureGluc project plays a key role in refining this process by developing an efficient membrane-based system to recover and purify glucose from complex wastewater streams. With a pilot plant already operational in The Netherlands, Recell aims to produce 50 kt of sugars by 2025. The project’s experiments are paving the way for techno-economic evaluations and industrial-scale applications, ensuring a sustainable supply of renewable glucose for the bio-based chemical industry of tomorrow.
