Plasmammonia: Ammonia decomposition is becoming a hot topic in the energy transition. The project looks at membranes and plasma reactors for ammonia decomposition to produce pure hydrogen
Tullia Zucca’s company excels in plasma system prototyping but lacks membrane and membrane reactor expertise. INNOMEM’s OITB unites membrane production specialists like Tecnalia with membrane reactor designers like TUE, accelerating Tullia Zucca’s hydrogen production project from ammonia decomposition with plasma.
During testing, membranes achieved hydrogen recovery purity exceeding 99%. Warm plasma at 450°C is necessary for complete ammonia conversion, aligning with membrane operational requirements. Tecnalia developed membranes with high selectivities, enabling effective hydrogen separation downstream of the plasma zone. Higher reactor pressure reduces membrane needs, while high-temperature plasma enhances conversion and membrane integration.
