SOLFROTUBES: Solvent-free production of low-fouling, chemically stable tubular filtration membranes
Berghof Membranes is developing tubular membranes using salt-dilution induced phase separation (SIPS) for a demo case to create chemically stable, low-fouling polyelectrolyte complex (PEC) membranes. This innovative process offers a solvent-free production method, reducing environmental impact while enhancing chemical stability and long-term performance. Key objectives include:
- Solvent-free production: Reducing solvent use.
- Low-fouling: Beneficial for end-users and eco-friendly.
- Chemical stability: Robust membranes for long-term use, reducing energy and chemical needs.
- PFAS-free: Addressing the need to reduce harmful substances.
Challenges include mechanical stability, long-term durability, and market acceptance, while lab tests showed promising results in terms of water permeability and membrane structure.
